Protein on a normal plate: a calm weekday pattern

This is a teaching look at a plate, not a doctor’s prescription and not a personal diet.

The benefit is covering protein on an ordinary weekday without counting every crumb. The protein portion is the size of your palm. That is usually enough to arrive at the next meal still full, instead of starting a second lunch an hour later.

How to build the plate

  • Half the plate is vegetables.
  • A palm is the protein: eggs, cottage cheese, fish, meat, beans, or thick yogurt.
  • A handful is grain or a piece of bread.
  • Water sits beside the plate. Juice does not replace the meal.

A sample day

  • Breakfast. Eggs or cottage cheese, and vegetables.
  • Lunch. Fish or chicken, a grain, salad.
  • Dinner. Beans or an egg, vegetables, a little bread.
  • If you get hungry in between. Yogurt or a small handful of nuts, not a second lunch.

Where the pattern falls apart

Salad with no protein. All of the protein in one late dinner. Juice instead of food. On a training day this plate does not change until a separate piece: today is only the calm weekday.
